One of my favorite bands ever. Only were around in 1993 and 1994. This is the total of all of the songs they officially released. The band never named any of their songs, so the titles are just titles given to them by the fans. Their music goes go from blistering loud, screaming, and chaotic to silent in one second. Lo-fi Bessie Smith jazz records in the background. Absolutely amazing. This is about the extent of the information I have on this band, other than they were from Oakland, CA. Their music kind of grows on you. Honestly, I wasn't terribly into it when I first hear it, but as I listened more and more, I appreciated it and loved it more and more. This is REAL emo kids.

The re-release of 2 live shows with 2 unreleased songs, titled Hidden Arithmetic, is available at their MySpace that is run by one of the members of the band. The only two instruments used were an acoustic guitar and an acoustic bass. Against Me! is a fantastic band, especially their earlier stuff. Some of it is similar to anarcho-punk, especially in the way the lyrics are written. My favorite song on this album is Reinventing Axl Rose. By the way, this is the extended CD version of this release. Sorry, this post kind of sucks. Just let the music speak for itself.

Download: RapidShare or MegaUpload

Crass - The Feeding of the 5000 (The Second Sitting)

Crass is the band that is often credited with starting the anarcho-punk movement. Even if they didn't start it, they sure were the most actively involved. It also seems like the more I find out about them, the more I love them. Anyways, Crass started in 1977 using music as a means to deliver their message. The Feeding of the 5000 was their first album from 1978. When they originally went to get it pressed, the people at the pressing plant wouldn't let them press the first song, Asylum, because of the lyrical content. They removed the track and replaced it with 2 minutes of silence, and titled the song The Sound of Free Speech. Later, when they released it on their own Crass Records, they replaced the song and titled the album The Feeding of the 5000 (The Second Sitting). The Television Addict single was self-released in 1977. They went on to release an EP titled No Thanks to the Human Turd, which I don't think is nearly as good as their first release. I heard they also had a release titled Perth Is Culture Shock, but I have no further information than that. You can buy their discography entitled All Loud on the Western Front somewhere.

Download: MegaUpload

Rites of Spring - End On End

Rites of Spring is often classified as the first emo band ever. They were formed in the Spring of 1984 and lead the charge of the Revolution Summer (summer of 1985), which was Washington D.C. bands trying to take the violence out of the scene by playing more emotional music. Their first and only LP, Rites of Spring, was recorded in February of 1985 and released in June of the same year. Their less chaotic EP, All Through A Life, was recorded in January of 1986. Shortly after, the band broke up. All Through A Life was released posthumously in May of 1987. After Rites of Spring broke up, 3 of the 4 members got together with Michael Hampton in May of 1986 for a reincarnation of Rites of Spring, called One Last Wish. Their only recording was done in November of 1986, which was released posthumously by Dischord Records in November of 1999, titled 1986. Shortly after the recording was done, One Last Wish broke up in January of 1987. Rites of Spring reunited in the spring of 1987 as Happy Go Licky. Happy Go Licky was more experimental than Rites of Spring or One Last Wish, mostly or completely improvising their songs. Since they were only around until New Years' Day of 1988, they never got a chance to record anything in a studio. Taped live performances were remastered by Ian MacKaye and released posthumously in August of 1997 as Will Play. Rites of Spring members Guy Picciotto and Brendan Canty went on to play with Fugazi, which they are still both currently playing for.

Download: MegaUpload

Welcome!

Well, this is the first post of my blog.
